John’s Bio

I was born in Brighton in 1954.  I am married to Val and we have four sons / daughter in laws and six grandchildren.

I started painting some 30 years ago and like many who take up art after leaving school I am mainly self taught, attending some art classes in various mediums before settling on painting in oils.  I now paint using water mixable oil paints.  I use three makes of paints, which are Winsor and Newton – Artisan; Royal Talens – Cobra and Holbein – Duo Aqua.

I am a member of the SAA (A Community for All Artists) and was until June 2017 an active member of the Derby Sketching Club.  In addition, I am a member of the Institute of Photography.

In July 2017 we moved from Derby to near Market Rasen.   We are part of the Market Rasen New Life Church.  In September 2017 we started a group for Christian artists (Bara’ House Artists) to explore prophetic art and all that this involves.    Some of the work from members of Bara’ House Artists can be seen on this web site.

Over the years I have painted many different subjects but I have always had a great love of the sea.  My main inspiration has been the varying coastline of the Northumberland coast.  Rather than painting well known coastal landmarks I concentrated on painting the sea, in particular waves.

In addition, to painting the sea, I have continued to paint and draw abstracts, figures, still life and portraits.

Some of these paintings and drawings can be seen at www.johnblundell.com.

In 2014 God started speaking to Val and myself about being involved in prophetic art.   This has been confirmed by many prophetic words.  This was a significant reason for our move from Derby to near Market Rasen.

In September 2018 I was diagnosed with bowel cancer, which had spread to the liver.     We are believing God for healing.    My present work now reflects the pictures God has been giving me during this period.   Some of them are on this web site.

ABSTRACTS

PROPHETIC

Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever
is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything
worthy of praise, think about these things…
